Dixon Hospitality’s South Melbourne offering, Wayside Inn, is part of their stellar line-up of Melbourne pubs. Head Chef Daniel Hilton has crafted a menu focused around traditional pub fare that has been given a modern lift. Standing proudly in one of South Melbourne's busiest streets, Wayside Inn welcomes you with a sleek bar area for casual dining in front and a more formal restaurant at the back. Steak is the name of the game here, but there are plenty of other dishes as well. Delivered to the table sizzling hot, pan-fried tiger prawns are plump morsels dusted in Moroccan-inspired seasoning. They sit atop an ancient grain salad. Pork schnitzel is delightful, with a heady scent of fresh sage leaves. The richness of the meat is offset by a fresh coleslaw of cabbage, pine nuts, orange and herbs. PSST! You can’t go past Wayside Inn’s courtyard on a sunny day – stop by from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays for happy hour. Reviewed for the 2018 Guide.
