Walter's Steakhouse

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Walter’s Steakhouse is the brainchild of Andrew Baturo, Paul Piticco and Denis Sheahan, who also own The Gresham and Popolo Italian Kitchen & Bar. Head Chef Adam Herbert (ex-Buffalo Bar and Mighty Mighty) has developed a menu that celebrates the steakhouses of old. Named after Walter Hill, who set up the Botanical Gardens across the road, the restaurant is modelled on the classic steakhouses of New York. Deep red leather banquettes and forest green stools, brass railings and period furnishings hark back to yesteryear. Even the cutlery has a dull antique patina. Start with oysters or prawn cocktail. The seafood chowder is in the famous New York style – thick and creamy, made with bacon lardons, salmon, mussels and other seafood. For mains, while there are other options – such as Atlantic salmon, pork loin or eggplant schnitzel – the focus here is firmly on the steaks, including a prime porterhouse dry aged in-house. The eye fillet is served with lemon, watercress and condiments. Order potatoes and sides to complete your meal. PSST! There’s a private dining room for small events and corporate dinners.
