Tokyo Tina

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Executive Chef Anthony Choi and Head Chef Sushil Aryal present a menu of wonderfully creative dishes at this modern Japanese restaurant. This funky joint is a cave-like space, with kitsch cartoons, wooden tables and an awesome bar. It kicks out loud tunes and shakes up fabulous cocktails with a Japanese spin, such as a dangerously delicious yuzu mento. The no-booking policy could mean a long wait unless you’re coming for a hearty bowl of ramen. Start off with a salmon tartare with cucumber, sesame and crunchy nashi pear to load onto crisp crackers. Perhaps follow with fried karaage chicken – golden and crisp on the outside, with a hint of chilli spice. Or try the white ginger steamed snapper in a dashi broth – a delicate and delightful dish. The ‘bowls’ section includes the latest fad of salmon poke among the nourishing ramen options (in small and large sizes) with either miso mushroom, spicy chicken or a smoked brisket with bok choy and an egg. PSST! Every Sunday at Tokyo Tina there is bingo academy – bingo, a brunch menu and bottomless booze for just $69 per person – House!! Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
