Southgate’s stylish second-storey restaurant The Deck has been serving modern Australian cuisine with a European influence for years.
Tucked at the side of the giant Southgate complex, this classy venue is secluded from the crazy bustle below, so you can enjoy the views of the skyline and Yarra from the balcony with a glass of premium wine.
Start with a charcuterie selection and some oysters before moving into a delicious starter of steamed zucchini flowers filled with crab and caviar. Ocean trout rillette is a divine summer dish, bringing together delicately flavoured, vibrant pink fish with pickled fennel and a beetroot and crème fraîche. Dry-aged beef tartare is diced with capers, buckwheat and a shallot pickle, and served on a piece of chargrilled ciabatta. A gorgeous fillet of rainbow trout is topped with a fresh salad of fennel and dill, bulked up with cannellini beans. For a heartier option, the house-made risotto comes with chunks of braised duck, a cheesy pecorino topping and a glossy aged balsamic dressing.
