L'avis de Gault&Millau
The food at The Albion isn’t your typical pub cuisine, with the kitchen pumping out sophisticated modern Asian, Italian and contemporary fare.
The Albion has undergone a modern refurbishment following a fire in 2015. Spread over three floors, the rooftop restaurant and bar offers indoor/outdoor seating with views of the city skyline.
The menu mostly offers smaller share plates, with a couple of larger plate options. Asian influences can be seen across the menu through the use of ingredients such as sriracha and ponzu. Start with chicken karaage – these crunchy chicken pieces served with a tart aioli are perfect finger food. So too is the Szechuan tofu bao filled with pickled slaw and chilli hoisin. Dumplings are stuffed with pork, celery, vermicelli and work well with a zingy ponzu–ginger sauce. For something larger, try the pork cutlets, spiced with harissa and served with a smooth and creamy celeriac and macadamia remoulade. If you are craving some pasta, try the angel-hair pasta with blue swimmer crab and prawns.
PSST! Check out the daily special: a meal and drink for $20.
