Owner/chef Hiro Nishikura heads up the team at Shira Nui, a popular Japanese restaurant tucked away in the vibrant and busy Glen Waverley shopping precinct.
Comfortable yet minimal, table settings are traditional, with appropriate chopsticks and soy dipping crockery and white linen tablecloths, while Japanese art adorns the walls. The sushi bar offers a close view of the food prep and interaction with the team. Service staff are attentive and helpful and always close by.
This is Japanese dining at its best – from the expected sushi and nigiri through to tempura and gyoza, it’s all on offer. The miso grilled sea perch is a simple dish, yet tasty and generous in size. Well cooked and seasoned, this dish offers classic flavours paired with simple presentation. The fresh nigiri is served with a variety of fresh seafood atop a beautiful rice ball and presented in that traditional clean and minimal style the Japanese do so well.
PSST! This is good Japanese food to be enjoyed any time, but be warned, with a seating capacity of 35, you will need to book.
