Following the success of their Mexican restaurant The Black Toro, owners Aret and Sasoon Arzadian and Garen Maskal opened SEZAR in 2013, with Chef Maskal overseeing the kitchen brigade. This chic, intimate space is perfect for a romantic dinner as night falls. The venue is fitted out with stylish black banquettes, eye-catching black feature lights and drop pendants over a marble bar. Come expecting Armenian food and settle in for a feast of flavours. Start with some lavosh with a rich brown-butter hummus – it will prove popular with the table – or snack on the spinach and feta boreg with crispy pastry shells and a zingy Aleppo pepper mayo. The cured ocean trout is an attractively presented dish; the vibrant orange fresh fish is accompanied by a shaved fennel and apple salad dusted with sumac. From the mains, the slow-cooked spiced beef cheek comes in a rich sauce flecked through with small florets of cauliflower, and diced preserved lemon adds a touch of lightness. PSST!
