Radio Cairo is the brainchild of owner/chef Srian Perera, who brings together diverse cuisines and cultures that have overlapped at some point in history. It is uniquely fun and fresh.
The atmosphere is eclectic: King Kong (1976) is screening on their TV; 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’ is their musical choice; birdcages hang from the ceiling; and the decor embraces the many cultures represented on the menu.
The menu is every bit as eclectic as the decor. Dishes are designed to share, so there’s an opportunity to travel the world in food! Herundi V. Bakshi’s world famous ‘num num’ roti wrap – named after Peter Sellers’ character from the 1968 flick The Party – is a great way to start off. Follow with dishes such as bongo bread, Ugandan Nile perch and clam ‘molee’, and duck breast on Tlaquepaque guacamole – these unusual dishes will twist and excite your tongue with spices and flavour profiles. And where else would you find an option titled Limpopo crocodile wings on the menu?
PSST! For the beer drinkers, they have a lager from Namibia named after the country’s capital city, Windhoek – give it a go.
