L'avis de Gault&Millau
Pontoon has been delighting seaside lovers since Stokehouse reopened its doors two years ago. Head Chef Rhys Hunter ‘s appealing menu has something to suit all tastes.
The casual, relaxed bar/restaurant has a gorgeous vibe with a spectacular view of the bay and killer sunsets.
Snacks include crispy popcorn chicken with a spicy mayo and spiced eggplant chips. There are plenty of options from the wood grill, such as smoked cauliflower steak with almond cream and a caper vinaigrette, and market fish, which might be salmon with a fennel and orange salad. If you’re there to share, then the slow-cooked 12-hour lamb shoulder feeds four people and comes with a side of pita bread and tzatziki. For something fresh, the quinoa and freekeh salad comes with pomegranate and a Middle Eastern sumac spice. And you can hoe into some carby goodness with their hand-stretched pizzas that match perfectly with an Aperol spritz, tap beer or a wine.
PSST! On weekends, Pontoon offer a ‘hair of the dog’ brunch from 11am–2pm, where you can ‘soothe your soul with hangover bites and cocktails’.
