L'avis de Gault&Millau

From the same family as Hanoi Hannah and Tokyo Tina, Neptune is a wine bar sister. Unlike the others, there’s a focus on modern European fare, eclectic wines and clever cocktails at this cosy rustic restaurant. Warm timbers, exposed brick and open framing to delineate dining areas all contribute to the feel of an open, airy space. The emphasis is on wine, and the wall of wine will be a focal point for wine lovers. Perhaps start with a plate of sizzling saganaki, marinating in a sweet honey and thyme and finished with a squeeze of lemon. Cubes of gin-cured salmon with hints of juniper berry, crunchy kohlrabi and smoky sour cream is pretty and petite. Main dishes include the fish of the day, such as a fillet of snapper with a kale puree, topped with mussels. The 300g O’Connor scotch fillet comes with a knob of butter than melts into the tender meat – perfect with a side of hand-cut chips and aioli. PSST!
