L'avis de Gault&Millau
Celebrity Israeli Chef Eyal Shani has an international following, with a chain of restaurants around the world – including Paris, New York and Tel Aviv – boasting eclectic Mediterranean street food. Miznon Melbourne is the latest addition, run by Head Chef Afik Gal.
The atmosphere is like one big party. Full of life and surprises, there’s an abundance of energy with jovial staff, loud music and warm surrounds.
Pita are the main focus of the menu, with glorious fillings such as sabich – fried eggplant and hard-boiled egg drenched in house-made tahini – or minute steak with chilli, tomato and pickles. Of course, there are tasty alternatives to pita. Lightly charred calamari comes with an Israeli salad of finely diced cucumber, tomato and parsley. ‘A bag of golden meat’ delivers a paper bag filled with slices of brisket, black pepper and onions. For arguably the best cauliflower you’ll ever taste, try the baby cauliflower flower – served whole, this pretty vegetable is steamed then roasted so the inside is soft and creamy while the leaves are crispy – yum!
PSST! Miznon offers a catering service.
