Machiavelli Ristorante Italiano

L'avis de Gault&Millau

After 28 years at the helm of Machiavelli Ristorante Italiano, Giovanna Toppi retired from the day-to-day operations and sold the restaurant to Nicolae Bicher who, along with Executive Chef Laurent Cambon (who has worked with Giovanna on and off since 1994), has continued the successful formula of traditional Neapolitan cuisine. Located on the lower ground floor, this once-popular hangout for our pollies has its walls filled with some of our most illustrious (and some not) government leaders. The dining room remains unchanged and channels classic Italian bistro with chunky furniture. No surprises on the menu, with Italian classics that won’t disappoint. By way of example, the risotto funghi (risotto prepared using a variety of mushrooms and mascarpone) is packed with rich, flavoursome mushrooms and beautiful parmesan cheese. The fettuccine duck ragu (ribbon pasta served with a rich Madeira sauce, fresh thyme and cherry tomatoes) is another popular dish that is rich, textural and extremely filling. PSST! Make sure you have a hearty appetite when you visit Machiavelli, as the portions are very generous. Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
