Lupino

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Having previously worked together at Melbourne’s Becco, owner Richard Lodge and Head Chef Marco Lori have teamed up at Lupino to offer a casual Italian experience with stellar food and service. Look for the neon red wolf’s head and you’ve found Lupino – an intimate Italian bistro with terracotta tiling, banquette seating and black macrame light fittings. The open-plan kitchen allows you to watch as charcuterie is sliced and meats are flame grilled. The menu features a compact selection of modern Italian dishes. Starters encourage grazing, with smaller bites: try the four-cheese and pea arancini with a crunchy coating or the baccalà croquettes with a fresh zucchini and mint salad. Pasta dishes are homey and indulgent; the orecchiette is well seasoned and firm with a light butter dressing, cime di rapa slivers and generous pieces of Italian sausage. The pork cutlet is a standout dish – tender and charred, with a smooth, smoky capsicum sauce. The accompanying Italian coleslaw strikes the right balance between sweet, acidic and salty. PSST! The menu changes regularly, so look out for new and exciting additions to the menu when you visit. Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
