LP’s Quality Meats is what happens when a former Tetsuya’s chef decides to open up a barbecue joint. At this Chippendale hotspot, Chef Luke Powell brings together the attitude of an American smokehouse with the freshness of contemporary Australian cuisine.
At home in a high-ceilinged warehouse in an industrial laneway, the restaurant is red-bricked, rock ‘n’ roll and a whole lot of fun. Friendly tattooed waiters race through the space, bringing trays loaded with delicious smoked meats to the long communal tables.
Salamis and deli meats are a great place to start, but the standout entree is the eggplant parmigiana, which is delightfully crunchy, smothered in a rich red sauce, and given an indulgent touch with a large parcel of burrata cheese. Obviously though, meat is what this place is all about, and from the Tennessee-built Southern Pride Smoker comes chicken rubbed with dill and paprika. This flavour-packed delight is served with house-made chilli sauce, mustard and chimichurri.
