Lau's Family Kitchen

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Under owner/Head Chef Gilbert Lau, family-run institution Lau’s Family Kitchen has been serving outstanding Chinese cuisine for decades. This classy establishment is a destination venue for many coming for a family meal, catch-ups and the like. The wine list has excellent choices by the bottle and glass. The menu is relatively simple with unique Asian specials that can be requested upon enquiry. Start with a twist on san choi bao: finely diced quail, pine nuts and a side of sweet plum sauce, all wrapped up like a Chinese taco. A steamed rice paper roll is filled with a mixture of soft spinach. Crisp fried wontons are made on the premises daily with a choice of fillings, such as pork or mixed vegetables. A traditional dish of Sichuan-braised eggplant is served with minced pork, Asian spice and steamed rice, while deep-fried bean curd, with an array of different mushrooms and mixed vegetables, will tempt vegetarians. PSST! Don’t be afraid to have a chat to your friendly waiter and ask about different dishes that are not on the menu. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
