Kepos Street Kitchen
L'avis de Gault&Millau
Israeli-born owner/Chef Michael Rantissi has brought a modern Middle Eastern menu to the Redfern neighbourhood.
Kepos Street Kitchen aims for welcoming and it certainly achieves that. The decor is kept simple, and the ambience makes diners feel comfortable, with the greeting on arrival and service during the meal reinforcing that feeling. For larger groups (up to 24 people), they offer a nice sunroom for an intimate special event.
What better way to kick off a Middle Eastern feast than with a delicious house-made hummus with hot, crusty bread? It’s the perfect introduction to the delicacies that follow. Chef Rantissi’s ocean trout version of moussaka may flout convention, but that’s what makes it a must-try. His well-executed take on this classic dish delivers beautiful chunks of trout on a well-reduced tomato sauce, with smooth tahini and thinly sliced roasted eggplant on top. The cauliflower salad sees this delicious vegetable teamed with herbs, pistachios and cranberries to produce a delicious combination of flavours and textures.
PSST! For groups of eight or more, there’s a Chef’s Selection sharing menu, featuring an extensive range of dishes from the dinner menu.
