Johnny Goes Italian

L'avis de Gault&Millau

With a tight and sharp menu designed to share, Swedish-born Chef Philip Stenvall (ex-121BC Cantina & Enoteca) offers generous servings of Italian dishes at Johnny Goes Italian. Could there be anything better than escaping busy Victoria Street in Darlinghurst and stepping into what feels like an old Italian lounge and dining room for a quality evening of Italian food, a bottle of wine and good conversation? This cool Italian street bar is dark and candlelit, with the cosy interior offering seating at the bar or at lovely marble-topped tables to sit back and enjoy a leisurely meal. Entrees include beef crudo with smoked anchovies, tomato and capers, as well as the very popular buffalo mozzarella. For main course, there’s a range of al-dente pastas and risottos, from risotto cacio e pepe to spaghetti all’amatriciana, and meat lovers will love the mezzelune with culatello. Don’t forget to finish off the night with the crispy, hand-made and hand-filled cannoli! PSST! Waiting for someone? Pop in and pull up at the long, tall bar and pass the time with a Negroni and some olives!
