Owner Chris Mencio’s Umbrian heritage is the focal point of Il Perugino. Traditional, classic and straightforward Italian cuisine with changing seasonal menus combined an inviting and warm atmosphere make this restaurant a local favourite.
Il Perugino is located in an attractive heritage building, which is over 100 years old. The cosy and inviting dining room and its tables dressed with crisp white tablecloths and napkins add to the overall elegance and ambience.
The menu features Italian favourites, including house-made pasta dishes such as spaghetti all’arrabiata. Fegatini di pollo – pan-fried free-range chicken livers with thyme and button mushrooms, flamed in brandy and finished with cream, is delicate in texture and rich in flavour. Mains include pesce del giornio, which may be perfectly pan-roasted barramundi fillet steak, served crispy skin up, with a tantalising lemon, garlic and a cherry tomato–caper–Spanish onion salsa. The pasta di mare (seafood pasta) and penne alla norcina (penne with pork sausage, porcini mushrooms, rosemary, cream and a hint of chilli) are full-flavoured, traditional and exquisite Italian pasta classics.
