Hawker Hall’s Head Chef, Damian Snell, has the fabulously fun task of ensuring that the South-East Asian-inspired menu – which replicates Singapore–Malay hawker food – is abundant, flavoursome and exciting.
The atmosphere inside this food and beer hall is vibrant and electric. Don’t expect intimate conversation but instead incessant buzz, chatter and loud music from the nightly DJs.
Start with ginger and prawn dumplings, served in a traditional steamer with soy and black vinegar caramel. Malay coconut beef rendang is rich and flavoursome, and the sauce is best soaked up with a serve of roti. Another authentic dish with a twist is the chicken tikka – juicy breast and wing marinated in spices, teamed with coconut yoghurt, chilli and lemon, and served on turmeric rice. Their nasi goreng has all the good stuff – chicken, shrimp and a fried egg – all to be loaded onto a crunchy prawn cracker. Or you might want to check out Hawker Hall’s speciality dishes, such as the barramundi fillet with aromatic spices, rice and turmeric potatoes.
