Harveys

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Originally from New Zealand, owner/chef PJ McMillan has become a well-known name on the Brisbane dining scene, built on his own work, as well as his time at e’cco bistro. Harveys is Chef McMillan’s homage to the seemingly year-round summer of Brisbane, and the lush restaurant is a rare blend of indoor and outdoor space. Greenery hangs throughout the inside section, while the fairy lights that wrap the trees make this a special location for warm evenings. The menu nods to a range of global cuisines, with European influences particularly shining through, and a charcuterie selection of jamóns, salamis and smoked Australian meats is a nice way to start. The main dishes lean towards a traditional bistro menu with some creative twists, such as Atlantic salmon paired with a miso broth, roasted duck breast coming with mandarin and aioli, and steak served with kale. The Mooloolaba prawn risotto is a popular dish, with a scrumptious fennel, chilli and lemon stock. PSST! An increasing rarity for fine dining restaurants, Harveys serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, so is well worth a look at any time of the day. Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
