L'avis de Gault&Millau
German-born Ingo Meissner has a love of ‘mother nature’ – he enjoys using seasonal produce as well as excellent ingredients such as fruits and vegetables that have been harvested locally. This ensures his food is always nutritious and delicious. Walking into the light and open dining space is like entering a gorgeous holiday house. The air is filled with tantalising aromas, and there is a touch of country in the barn doors, pot plants and timber furniture.
The food is bright, colourful and simply divine. As there are no chemicals used in the dishes, you can taste the purity of the ingredients. Local trout fillet ‘Veronique’ is perfectly cooked, with a crispy skin. It sits on a bed of fluffy almond skordalia and green broccolini, and is topped with aniseed-like fennel and fresh watercress. A little heartier is the broccolini haloumi potato gnocchi. Handmade gnocchi are enhanced with crunchy bites of cauliflower, sweetcorn, pine nuts and a tomato emulsion.
PSST! The Grain Store has a magnificent private dining room that is perfect for a small lunchtime function – it holds up to 20 seated guests.
