L'avis de Gault&Millau
Executive Chef Johnny Di Francesco trained in Naples before joining Gradi, the classic Italian restaurant in the Crown Melbourne complex.
Located right on the water, this large eatery has a huge, opulent space with an Italian feel, as well as tables outside overlooking the Yarra. It’s a hot spot for tourists and wonderfully family friendly, yet still formal.
The large menu has plenty of options to suit a variety of tastes. Start with some antipasti or a bruschetta al pomodoro – Black Russian tomatoes with basil and a knob of thick, luscious buffalo mozzarella. Gorgeous, vibrant roasted purple and yellow beetroots sit among fluffy burrata, with textural crunch supplied by black puffed rice and almond flakes. Pizzas include the signature margherita verace, and the carnivora with salami and prosciutto. Pasta dishes include linguine pescatore, presenting a delightful mix of mussels, clams, prawns and scallops in a rich juicy tomato and garlic sauce. Secondi options include fish of the day or a chargrilled sirloin with creamy mash.
PSST! Come in on a weekday from 3pm to 5pm for a pizza and Aperol for just $30.
