Glebe Point Diner

L'avis de Gault&Millau

With experiences in the kitchens of much-loved Sydney eateries, such as Bourke Street Bakery and Sean’s Panaroma, as well as formal training in Tuscany, owner/Chef Alex Kearns brings his significant skills to the menu. The dining room is bright, friendly and always busy, populated by a mix of loyal locals out for a casual meal, and people celebrating with loved ones. Chef Kearns serves up homey, rustic fare with a fresh, Mediterranean feel about it, such as the heirloom tomato and burrata salad, which is served with fragrant basil leaves and a crunchy olive crumb. Another popular starter is the potato rösti with smoked eel, sour cream and chives, which is a perfectly sized snack to accompany the crisp Australian white wines on offer. The pipi tagliatelle is a cute Antipodean take on an Italian classic, but it is the ricotta gnocchi that is a standout, with plump pillows of soft pasta soaking up juicy king brown mushrooms and a cavalo nero sauce. PSST! Their set lunch menu offers great value – two courses and a glass of wine for only $45. Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
