Gaucho's

L'avis de Gault&Millau

With the bold claim of being Australia’s pioneering Argentinian restaurant, the family-owned Gaucho’s has become something of an institution in Adelaide. While known for steak, there’s a strong commitment to innovation, with a recent drive to bring seafood options to the menu. Located in a great dining district, the decor is traditional Argentinian steakhouse, featuring bulls’ horns and prized bottles of Malbec. There are also tables on the street, for those looking for something more cosmopolitan, or in the frequent event that inside is full. Local oysters, fennel-dusted calamari and hearty mussels are great seafood starters, and sit next to the more classic chorizo and provoleta. There is no doubting, however, that for the main courses, it is beef that is the hero. Porterhouses, scotch fillets, striploins and T-bones are all on offer, served with a house-made chimichurri. Washed down with a local shiraz, to the music of Argentina, a Gaucho’s steak is an experience, intended to be savoured. PSST! For those looking to hold a unique event, Gaucho’s has two function spaces on offer and generously customises group experiences. Reviewed for the 2019 guide
