Long-established Fu Manchu restaurant recently relocated to Darlinghurst’s bustling Victoria Street. The location may have changed, but Chef Annie Lee continues to deliver outstanding modern Chinese food.
Open for both lunch and dinner (and also offering a delivery service), diners feel like they’ve stepped into a modern Chinese teahouse with an open kitchen, cute timber tables and stools and inspired cutlery and crockery.
The menu is a testament to Chinese migration through Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, with dishes such as the classic and crunchy pork san choi bao, crispy duck pancakes, chicken nyonya and the best, most balanced and texturally exciting, spicy beef rendang you will try outside of Malaysia. The wine list is small but well structured with natural wines from all over Australia and the world and, for non-drinkers, the Chinese tea and non-alcoholic drinks are a wonderful complement to a menu full of spice, texture and fresh ingredients with a modern twist.
