Franca is the new modern French brasserie from Chef Alexis Besseau, who has worked at est. and The Bathers’ Pavilion. Owner Andrew Becher has created an opulent brasserie with oak tables, pink marble, brass, green leather banquettes and red velvet furnishings. The smartly attired service staff are efficient and organised. The food is French with some twists and a modern approach. The menu includes classics such as bouillabaisse, ratatouille and game meats. Tuna sashimi niçoise features delicate raw tuna, sweet confit tomatoes, egg yolk and olive tapenade. The beetroot salad is tender, sweet and earthy, with crisp charred sesame and soft ricotta. Elegant disks of creamy foie gras are complemented by a tart rhubarb puree and wafer-thin slices of gingerbread. For mains, a lightly grilled fillet of Murray cod sits on a bed of sweet blue swimmer crab and celeriac puree, served with broccoli and a subtle seafood broth while the 250g sirloin comes with shoestring fries and fresh bearnaise. PSST! As parking is at a premium in this area, catch an Uber and have a pre-dinner cocktail at the comptoir.
