Farmhouse Kings Cross
L'avis de Gault&Millau
Owner Mike Mu Sung started at Farmhouse as a young chef five years ago having previously worked at sixpenny and est. A year later he bought the business and now shares the cooking with Juju Miyamoto and Jordan Stronghan.
The tiny, narrow space has a single communal table for 20, with cleverly hinged sections for access to seats against the wall. The decor is rustic French farmhouse with exposed wooden ceiling beams, brick floors and recycled timber cabinetry.
There’s a set menu, and half the menu changes every fortnight. The meal begins with finger food, such as house-made sourdough filled with tomato hummus, plantain chips and dip and fresh pickles. Next comes cold poached salmon with crunchy daikon crème fraîche and a sublime pool of verjus, delicately flavoured and garnished with micro herbs. Melting pork belly with crackling is a crowd pleaser and is accompanied by mash, charred cabbage and radishes and an amazing miso eggplant salad.
PSST! Be prepared to chat to new friends at the communal table rather than having an intimate tête-à-tête.
