L'avis de Gault&Millau
At eliza food & wine, well-credentialled Chef Jeremy Bentley (ex-The Devonshire) has designed his menu to appeal to the less protein-heavy preferences of the modern diner.
The eclectic vibe, both inside and out, feeds off the quirky energy from this key corner Darlinghurst location, whether diners are at the bar, along the long banquette or on the streetside tables that tap into the pulse of the diverse community.
Start with the small snack-size dishes – the prawn spring roll with saffron is impressive. Likewise, the divinely textured roast carrot with black garlic, sourdough, pine nut, pea and parsley is an inspired combination. Cold smoked kangaroo, served with beetroot, white onion, sunflower and poppy seed, is the epitome of modern Australian cuisine, while roasted pork belly with wilted baby gem and smoked almond cream plays joyful homage to the value and simplicity of flavoursome delivery. Similarly, the 12-hour cooked lamb shoulder with sweet and sour eggplant and rosemary is more-ish and perfect for sharing between two.
PSST! The ‘very berry tea brûlée’ is a playful variation on the Devonshire tea dessert that wowed diners previously.
