El Topo Mexican

L'avis de Gault&Millau

The Eastern has conjured up a team of culinary enthusiasts to work their magic on the menu at El Topo Mexican, where the chefs utilise Latin ingredients for their Mexican-inspired food. If the sunny sounds of salsa and samba don’t put you in a festive mood, then perhaps the colourful ‘Day of the Dead’ decorations or the dangerously attractive drink list will? El Topo Mexican offers some fun, quirky dishes, such as a starter of roast crickets (chapulines) with chilli, garlic and lime, and soft-shell crab taco with serrano morita mayonnaise, jalapeño chilli and cactus salsa – and yes, the prickles are left out! Huitlacoche is a fungus that develops during the rainy season on corn as they start to ripen. The chefs mix huitlacoche with wild mushrooms, and add the cheesy goodness of queso Oaxaca, along with serrano morita mayonnaise, to create a quesadilla filling. The result is a thrilling experience highlighted by smoky earthy flavours. Challenge yourself and order the extraordinary. PSST! Gluten free and vegetarian options are available.
