Inspired by 'The Karate Kid', Daniel San presents a unique take on Japanese food.
The decor may be eclectic – pink neon ceilings, artwork on the walls, guitars and karate trophies – but the venue is nonetheless very welcoming, and you have a sense of being transported somewhere else. The ambience is electric, the venue is huge with 350 seats right in front of a pinball parlour and, for the kids, there’s a play centre. The bar is pretty cool, with a nice selection of cocktails and sake.
The food is fantastic, from the sashimi boats to share to the skewers from the traditional robata grill. The pork buns are filled with 12-hour slow-cooked pork belly, cooked to perfection, with pickled cucumber and cashew sauce – very appetising. Likewise, the pork gyozas are crisp and nicely steamed, with a juicy, flavoursome filling and finished with a ponzu dressing. You might like to try the traditional chicken yakitori, cooked on the robata grill, producing tender meat with a lovely nice smoky flavour.
