The experienced skill set of talented Chef James Mussillon is now fully focused on the lavishly appointed fine diner Courgette, having divested himself of his ownership and involvement with Waters Edge late last year. The warmth of the space almost gives you a familiar hug from the moment you enter the luxuriant main dining space. From the plush fittings and comfortable seats to the flawlessly set tables, it is impressive. The generously portioned, well-seasoned entree of baked field mushrooms and Meredith goat cheese ravioli with macadamia-wood-smoked red pepper pesto delivers an abundance of flavours and layering of textures. Dutton Park duck from Young is served with both a confit leg and breast. The rich potato fondant, memorable bean puree, apricot, mint and garlic jus are the perfect accompaniments to a very accomplished savoury dish. A large side of Paris mash is not obligatory, but at just nine dollars, it is a steal. PSST! It is worth watching out for any winemaker dinner events.
