Chez Bob

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Petite and humble French fine diner Chez Bob is headed up by Italian-born Chef Alessio Caneschi. The gorgeous little Armadale eatery is tucked away on Beatty Street, amid the lovely strip of restaurants and cafes. Inside it’s cute and oh-so-Parisian in style, with wooden chairs, white tablecloths and a very old school fit-out. Priding themselves on their outstanding customer service, you’ll get a warm greeting from jovial, predominantly French staff. The wine list is divine, with exceptional French varieties by the glass. The concise menu is very French in both fare and execution. Start with an entree of pâté de foie de canard – duck liver parfait with house-cured duck meat and pickled vegetables, or a bowl of moules au vin blanc – fresh mussels swimming in a divine and harmonious broth of white wine, chervil, garlic and spring onion. The fish of the day may be a barramundi fillet, pan fried, with a crisp skin and served with house-made tartar sauce. Of course, a traditional steak tartare is a rich but delightful classic. PSST! Tuesday to Thursday is BYO wine with an $18 corkage fee. Reviewed for the 2019 Guide
