Run by the Reymond family, Bistro Gitan takes its name from Europe’s nomadic gypsy folk. In a similar roaming fashion, the restaurant’s menu traverses Europe, and thus includes French favourites and modern-day classics found in the brasseries and bistros across the continent and beyond.
A warm and inviting ambience, friendly staff and a roaring fireplace will make you feel right at home.
Start with a snack-size starter from the ‘petite’ selection before moving on to the entrees, which include classics such as steak tartare with quail egg and horseradish, and Mooloolaba prawn cocktail with avocado and grapefruit. Main courses include house specialities, such as the oven-baked deep-sea rockling, cooked to a traditional recipe, but you may be tempted by the spatchcock with a mustard crust. The perfectly grilled butterflied spatchcock, tender and succulent and infused with mustard flavour, white wine and herbs, sits perched atop a generous mound of buttery savoy cabbage studded with small, smoky lardons of bacon and finished with the zing of pepper and verjuice.
