Nicky Reimer (ex-Union Street Dining) heads up the kitchen at Bellota – the gorgeous wine bar that adjoins Prince Wine Store.
Bellota has a casual, but elegant feel with a European-style dining menu focusing on seasonal produce, and all the food matches perfectly with the wines on offer.
Start with a rustic board of charcuterie, such as the cured pork loin with juniper, or a plate of salami – mild or spicy. Moonlight Flat oysters are fresh and delightful, perfect with a glass of bubbles, while diamond clams are roasted in a beautiful garlic butter and served with soft white polenta. For main course, the confit duck leg is rich and delicious, with a unique sautéed spaetzle, mushrooms and Madeira jus. Fish of the day may be a goldband snapper fillet. Perfectly pan-fried, with a crisp skin, the fish is served on a fresh Sicilian salad of herbs and fennel with a sweet touch from dried berries. Spaghettini has a smoky flavour, with eel, chilli, garlic and pangrattato crumbs.
