Bar Nacional has been serving inventive Spanish tapas for a few years now, with the menu built on authentic Spanish cuisine and the use of the famous Josper grill.
A stone’s throw from Spencer Street station, this inviting indoor/outdoor restaurant is bustling, serving work lunches, after-work drinks and dinners.
Start by sharing a few tapas like their tortilla, a perfect balance of egg and potato with a smoky paprika sauce to give it a kick. Gambas (prawns) are given the Josper treatment and served with heirloom tomatoes, garlic and a sherry vinegar that you’ll want to mop up with the crunchy bread. Raciones include a Josper-roasted salmon fillet, with a colourful charred orange and tomato salad – a dish that goes well with crispy patatas bravas. For something lighter, the fresh calabacín is grilled zucchini, chickpea and shaved fennel, with radish, dukkah, hung yoghurt, honey and cumin dressing. Wash it down with a Spanish wine or traditional sangria.
