Baby Pizza is Chris Lucas’ hip Italian joint in Richmond. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this bustling eatery is always bursting with people, be it family lunches, business deals or groups ready for a night on the town.
The indoor space features clean lines, timber floors and a mix of banquettes and bentwood chairs at the timber tables. For al fresco dining, there’s an outdoor area framed by greenery.
Intentionally kitsch and fun-loving, the menu has some serious options. To get the tastebuds fired up for the dishes to follow, start with a plate of salumi misti. Then choose something from the small tastes selection, such as calamari fritti – traditional deep-fried calamari rings dipped in a lemon–herb aioli. Pastas include a pici – a thick, hand-rolled spaghetti with pecorino Romano – or a rigatoni with slow-braised beef ragu. An entire page of the menu is dedicated to pizza: thin-based with a crunchy crust, and toppings to suit every taste. Meat lovers will enjoy the salumi pizza, with oozy white fior di latte, thinly sliced pancetta, double-smoked leg ham and spiced sausage.
