Africola is the real deal, the concept of owner/chef Duncan Welgemoed, who brings the distinctive flavours of his South African cuisine and heritage to Adelaide. With impressive Head Chef Imogen Czulowski, they deliver this authentic experience to a room of fully engaged diners.
Located in the relative serenity of East Terrace, on the edge of the CBD, the restaurant is quite the revelation when you first open the door and enter the vibrant and eclectic world that is simply Africola, which is both unique and captivating.
Starting with the spicy tea sandwich, filled with crispy chicken skin, fresh leaves and spicy mayo, is absolutely mandatory. The large wood-oven-cooked prawns are well seasoned with chilli oil and lemon, delivering flavour that demands the remnants are mopped up with the excellent flatbread. Similarly, the sublime charred pork neck with anchovy sauce hits the mark perfectly. While the menu is designed to share, when it is this exceptional, good luck with managing it!
