Named Zaaffran in homage to saffron, this is a restaurant that takes its spices very seriously. Chef Vikrant Kapoor has been fine-tuning his menu over two decades, with an enduring commitment to creating delicate and balanced dishes.
Located in Sydney’s bustling Darling Harbour precinct, the large, stylish dining room offers views over the water.
The menu is divided into non-vegetarian and vegetarian with a number of creative dishes on offer for the latter. Diners can begin with tandoori prawns, beetroot patties or tandoor-smoked lamb cutlets. While the much-loved butter chicken and vindaloos are available on the menu, the chef's specialities indicate that further exploration of the menu is worthwhile here. The lagoon Kerala ishtoo, for example, is an aromatic coconut-based curry that comes with a combination of tiger prawns, calamari and bug meat. Classic sides like kachumber – an onion, cucumber and tomato salad – is also worth ordering to offset some of the spicier dishes!
