In the glamorous little town of Port Douglas, Watergate is a stunning lounge bar and restaurant serving contemporary fare, and headed up by Head Chef Lee Neate.
Boasting both indoor and outdoor seating and a cruisy area that’s perfect for a cheeky cocktail before dinner or after lunch, the interior is formal but relaxed. White tablecloths and candlelight give a romantic feel.
The menu changes seasonally and all the dishes are innovative and unique. Start with a soft-shell crab tempura. The shell is stuffed with a filling of prawn and snapper and served on a plate of a subtle yellow curry aioli and sweet chilli jam. Flavoursome Boston Bay mussels are served in a delicious, aromatic lemongrass broth oozing with Asian flavours and served with crunchy bread. Yellowfin tuna comes with a sesame–spice crust and is served with shredded noodles and a pickled cucumber salad. Crocodile and kangaroo also make it onto the menu for those interested in trying something a little different.
