Vlado’s was established in 1964 by Croatian immigrant Vlado Gregurek, and since then it has become a revered Melbourne institution. Vlado passed away in 2012, but the restaurant continues to deliver top-notch steak thanks to Head Chef Ivan Glavas. The decor has changed little since it was opened, and this is part of its charm. The atmosphere is homey, and the walls are covered with photos of famous regulars.
The food is simple at Vlado’s; there is a set menu, and the only decisions you have to make are which steak you would like and how you want it cooked. Vlado’s house-made beef and pork sausage is a tasty, European-style offering. The porterhouse steak is the main event, and the quality of the meat is very high. A fresh and zesty vinaigrette-based coleslaw and garden salad are the perfect foils for the rich meat.
PSST! Vlado’s has a special corporate lunch menu, and you can hire their private dining room free of charge for company events.
