With his naturally leavened wood-fired pizzas and his range of pastas, Chef Ivano La Placa spreads a little Italian sunshine to the good folk of Willoughby. Local families flock in droves to this Italian eatery, where shouts, cries, laughter and happiness fill the restaurant. Pizza boxes lean over the pizza oven like the Tower of Pisa and one gets a sense that they’re in the right place.
It’s no surprise that the menu is proudly Italian, featuring dishes and ingredients that are firm favourites with Australian diners. Start with the buffalo ricotta ravioli – these circles of sunshine are topped with pumpkin, mascarpone, sage and walnut, which complement one another beautifully. There are numerous traditional pizzas available – such as the margherita (basil and fior di latte) or the ananas (ham and pineapple) – which are delivered to the table piping hot, sporting thin bases and a puffy crust.
PSST! Vegan diners should check out the speciality pizzas topped with Notzarella.
