Executive Chef Dan Jarrett has been delighting foodies in South-East Queensland for many years, and his passion for Asian food is evident. The menu he has created for The Balfour Kitchen showcases fresh, light and punchy modern Vietnamese dishes with French influences.
Set within a Queenslander with a wraparound verandah, guests can dine in the courtyard under the frangipani trees, on the verandah or in the open dining rooms. The service is brisk and friendly, the atmosphere quintessentially Queensland, elegant yet casual.
The menu is designed to be shared but can be enjoyed individually. Beetroot dumplings are soft, spicy mouthfuls, served with Chinese kale, discs of coffee-infused carrot, and turmeric sauce. Slightly bitter pomelo citrus is teamed with spicy sticky pork and rice vermicelli, balanced with salty nuoc cham – an aromatic dish with multiple textures and flavours. Cha Ca, an iconic fish dish from Hanoi, is a soft, sweet and spicy offering featuring local snapper and mussels with rice vermicelli in a turmeric, dill and nuoc cham sauce.
PSST! You can enjoy dinner and a movie at the local New Farm Cinema (Tue to Sat).
