Supermaxi is a labour of love for owner/chef Rita Macali, who opened the restaurant with partner Giovanni Patane. Chef Macali heads up the kitchen, where the double oven pumps out sizzling pizza. The restaurant has a minimalist decor, with pure white walls that sit in contrast to the black central bar. Soft lighting makes this a great venue for an intimate meal.
The Italian menu rarely changes, and the locals like it that way. As with all pizzas here, badabing has a superbly charred and crispy base. Flavoursome pork sausage, provolone, oregano and chilli are scattered over the red-sauced base. A highlight of the menu is snapper with fried potatoes and caponata. The fresh, light and well-seasoned fish is complemented by the full-flavoured caponata brimming with olives, capers and diced vegetables. The dish is rounded off with a tart white-wine dressing.
PSST! Save room for one of the decadent desserts, such as chocolate panna cotta with raspberry sauce, or torrone semifreddo.
