Chef Michael Li (ex-Lee Ho Fook, MoVida and Restaurant Shik) – ‘Super Mike’, as he is known – has teamed up with Iain Ling to create Super Ling. ‘Super Mike’ was born in Mauritius, and his mother hails from northern China, so he draws on these cultures to create a menu that crosses many borders.
Funky and modern, this 30-seat restaurant has a communal feel, making it an ideal place to relax with friends and enjoy some interesting dishes. The slightly elevated semi-open kitchen overlooks the high-ceilinged dining room.
Start with a couple of ‘smalls’. Bite into a mapo tofu jaffle to reveal a surprising filling of pork, water chestnut and silky tofu, with Sichuan pepper and black vinegar providing a tangy and tart foil. Hakkien is a French-influenced Mauritian spring roll with choko, barramundi and pork. Fermented chilli paste served separately allows you to heat this delicious dish to your liking. ‘Bigs’ include steamed barramundi and rice – a tantalising tender and spicy fillet served with a chilli oil and soy dressing, Chinese cabbage and peanuts.
PSST! An extended wine list is available from sister venue The Lincoln.
