Co-owner with the Porteño crew, Chef Ibrahim Kasif delivers his take on Turkish cuisine to diners at Stanbuli.
Just across from the Enmore Theatre, this charming restaurant lies behind the facade of a 1950s hairdressing salon. The ambience is very welcoming, with wait staff on point and polite, with a polished approach to customer service.
The food is a Turkish delight, with the meze to share offering an opportunity to try many different dishes. The chicken skewers feature very tender meat, wonderful spices and a nice charcoal grill marks. Vegetarian options include karnibahar – dark fried cauliflower with layers of onion and yoghurt and saffron sauce that’s so good you’ll want to dip Stanbuli’s warm, fluffy, grilled flatbread in. The wood grill produces meaty delights such as lamb and beef kofte, cooked to perfection, and delivering a flavour punch. These tasty morsels are served with green chillies, tomato and onion, and a cooling yoghurt and zucchini dipping sauce.
PSST! After the meal, try the muhallebi – a light and refreshing milk pudding, peach and grapes with a watermelon granita.
