Owner/chef Brenton Allan executes a well-thought-out contemporary menu that has something for everyone. His dishes highlight seasonal South Australian produce, such as Spencer Gulf prawns. Located adjacent to the old Mitcham Post office, Stamps has a relaxed ambience. Grape vines linger over the heritage verandah, while historical photos decorate the dining room.
Modern and classic techniques are on show with Chef Allan’s remarkable range of dishes. Smoked venison loin and pâté with cauliflower and cornichon pickle, quince paste and rye toast is a hearty meal. The hint of smokiness from the meat combines well with the smoothness of the pâté, while the tart pickle balances the flavours beautifully. A signature dish, Stamps pie features the robust flavours of lamb and oregano encased in crisp, house-made pastry. Smooth potato mash and velvety spinach are perfect accompaniments for the lamb.
