Restaurateur David Mackintosh, co-founder of MoVida and Pei Modern, has turned his hand to Italian cuisine with this casual Italian restaurant on the fringes of Chinatown.
This quirky venue showcases street art along the interior walls. The large wood-fire pizza oven takes centre stage, surrounded by classic white tiles. A casual space with a buzzing vibe, the venue does a roaring trade with the business crowd on weekdays.
At SPQR, it’s all about the pizza, and for good reason. The sourdough pizza has a thin base with a light, deliciously chewy crust and the wood-fire oven produces those addictive charred blisters and spots. Check out the blackboard menu and choose from a selection of red and white pizzas. The polpette pizza consists of meatballs, fresh basil and a generous helping of creamy fior de latte. If you’re after a white pizza, try the indulgent tartufo: topped with potato and mozzarella di bufala, the addition of truffle paste giving a rich intensity.
PSST! Looking for a lighter bite? SPQR also offer pizza by the slice.
