Smith & Daughters is a unique concept – a Latin-inspired venue with a menu that is completely vegan. It was created by Head Chef Shannon Martinez, who wanted to show how exciting Mexican and Latin American food can be without meat. With brick walls, communal tables and a funky bar at the front, the interior of the restaurant is slightly hipster and grungy. The atmosphere is bustling, and the restaurant is the perfect place for a catch-up with friends.
Featuring exotic names and clever ingredient combinations, the vegan dishes are never boring! Bunelos de setas comprises deep-fried adobo-marinated mushroom strips served with two tasty dipping sauces: piquant chimichurri and coriander cream. Quesadilla is a thin tortilla with a spiced black bean and cheese filling. Chipotle sauce adds a fiery kick, and is balanced by cooling avocado puree. Alcachofa y el calabacin ensalada is a mild salad starring chargrilled artichokes and zucchini, toasted almonds and deep-fried capers. It would have been improved if the dressing had more flavour.
PSST! Pop into Smith & Deli, right next door to the restaurant, for some sensational vegan food you can take home.
