Owner/Executive Chef Garen Maskal has two other restaurants – SEZAR and The Black Toro – to his name, and has now opened this cute and delicious eatery, with Sean Thomas as Head Chef.
On the bustling end of Chapel Street, there are a few tables outdoors for al fresco dining. Inside is casual but inviting, with quirky neon signs to appeal to the predominantly Gen-Y crowd.
The menu is designed for sharing. Bites of chargrilled calamari have a smoky flavour, and work in perfect harmony with the unique combination of green olive salsa and kipfler potatoes on a bed of creamy labna. Oozy grilled haloumi has some shaved zucchini greens, a delightful sweetness from raisins and crunch supplied by hazelnuts. Larger dishes include a whole baby chicken with pickled onions and green harissa on a flatbread. Crispy-skinned barramundi comes with a pea and broad bean tabouli and sweet mango amba. The slow-cooked lamb shoulder is a great dish for sharing.
PSST! Shukah have a BYO Sunday special – free corkage with their banquet and $5pp if ordering à la carte.
