Head Chef Franco Caruso’s love affair with cooking started at the family pizzeria in Calabria, Italy. He worked at Le Champignon Sauvage and Michael Caines Restaurant in the United Kingdom before moving to Melbourne. At Richmond Hill Cafe & Larder, his menu is fresh and appealing. Situated in a double-fronted building with red-and-grey striped parasols, the restaurant is a light-filled dining space with a warm wooden decor and charming wicker-style chairs. Trading since the early 1990s, Richmond Hill Cafe & Larder is a very popular breakfast and lunch venue.
With a specials menu that changes daily, and a produce-driven breakfast and lunch menu, there’s something here for everyone. For a savoury delight, try the chunky sweetcorn and coriander fritters. This rustic dish is beautifully balanced with a variety of tasty accompaniments, including sweet and tangy house-made chutney, smooth smashed avocado and deliciously smoky bacon. Southern fried chicken is freshened by a serving of watercress Asian slaw drizzled with sweet and sour dressing.
